Price-Renown Valve Filter Metering (VFM) units and water control inserts are specifically designed for water supply reticulation systems, ensuring a constant and controlled flow of water. They are commonly used in municipal water supply networks.
- Construction: Made from durable bronze with stainless steel filters and retainers.
- Size Options: Standard size is 15mm (1/2" BSP), but units can also be supplied in 20mm (3/4" BSP).
- Insert Material: Primarily stainless steel, which regulates water flow between 0.4 litres per minute (lpm) and 23 Lpm.
- Frost Protection: VFM units can be provided with or without a frost plug to minimise the risk of frost damage.
There are two methods to control the water flow in the VFM unit:
- Maric Insert: This option provides a constant volume of water at varying pressures, with the flow rate determined by the size of the insert. It operates most efficiently between pressures of 138 kPa and 965 kPa. Stock sizes range from 0.7, which delivers 1 cubic meter (m³) per day, up to 14.5, which provides 21 m³ per day. Other sizes are available upon request.
- Fixed Orifice: This method involves selecting a size from a graph to achieve the desired water quantity at a known pressure. In both cases, the insert or orifice can be sealed by the installing authority. Water flows upward into the cap and then down through the filter before passing through the insert or orifice. The cap can be removed to clean the strainer or replace the insert without disturbing the pipeline.
